Perfect Porridge

This is the perfect porridge for camping, tramping, skiing, or at home. To make it seriously smooth soak the mixed ingredients overnight.

Ingredients (for two)

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2¼ cups water
  • ½ cups full milk powder

Increase ingredients proportionally for larger batches

  • mix dry ingredients fully in a saucepan
  • add water, soak if possible, overnight is good
  • heat slowly, stirring until it simmers
  • simmer and stir over a moderate heat gently for 3 minutes
(To help with the cleaning, ensure the saucepan is filled with cold water immediately after serving)

Good Topping Ideas

  • Brown sugar and milk or cream
  • Fruit and yoghurt
  • Bananas and cinnamon
  • Honey
  • Icecream

1 part milk powder, 4 parts water
1 part porridge, 2¼ parts water
