1 kg medium sized potatoes 1 litre water salt butter for frying

  • One day before par boil the unpeeled potatoes in salted water till just firm.
  • Peel the potatoes and grate coursely. Sprinkle with one tsp of salt.
  • In a non stick frypan melt a knob of butter on a medium heat and add the potatoes
  • Turn them over from time to time for about five minutes
  • Arrange evenly to form a flat cake over the bottom of the pan
  • Turn the heat to low and cook for 15 minutes
  • Turn the cake upside down onto a plate and serve

A Swiss-German dish delicious served with meat, fish, or vegetables.
